Project brief

200 East 83rd Street is a 35-story condominium tower with 86 residences at the southeast corner of Third Avenue and East 83rd Street, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan's Upper East Side. Naftali Group and Rockefeller Group developed the building. Robert A.M. Stern Architects designed it, with SLCE Architects as architect of record, and Rottet Studio designed the interiors. Homes range from one to six bedrooms in half-floor, full-floor and duplex layouts, and residential floors begin on the seventh level.

The design takes a Modern Classical approach that draws on the grand apartment buildings of Park, Fifth and Madison Avenues and on the neighborhood's historic clubs and cultural institutions. A limestone facade with ironwork, large windows and arches rises to a crown that holds three penthouses with terraces. A vaulted porte-cochere with automated parking opens onto a private courtyard. The 17th floor is given over to wellness, with a 70-foot pool under double-height vaulted ceilings, a yoga room and a landscaped terrace. A Winter Garden and a paneled library with a fireplace round out the shared spaces. The tower replaced pre-war walk-ups that were demolished in 2019. It topped out in June 2021, sales launched that October, and the building was completed in 2023.

BOGZA produced renderings of the building's amenity spaces: a private dining room under tall arched windows, a skylit indoor pool, and a wood-paneled studio with city views.
