Project brief
Park Place is a 35-story office and retail tower at 666 Burrard Street, on the corner of Burrard and Dunsmuir Streets in Downtown Vancouver's Financial District, across from Burrard SkyTrain station. Completed in 1984, the Postmodern tower rises 140 meters (459 feet) and holds about 596,000 square feet of leasable space. Nearly all of it is offices, with roughly 19,000 square feet of retail. QuadReal Property Group owns and manages the building. Vancouver firm Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership (MCMP), which was involved in the original design, is the architect of its current renovation.
The tower covers only about 35 percent of its site, leaving the rest as open green space with water features and a small amphitheater. The renovation of the lobby and street level is in its final construction stages. Plans call for a redesigned main lobby with curving forms, new lighting, greenery and more seating, along with a new lounge and informal meeting areas. They also include a full-service restaurant with an outdoor patio at the corner and a renovated space for the JJ Bean cafe. The lobby is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, and the lounge and restaurant are targeted for completion by the second quarter.
In 2021 BOGZA produced exterior and interior renderings of the tower's renewed base for MCMP. The images show a glass lobby pavilion, a restaurant opening onto a street patio and a cafe on the corner. They also show a dining hall with a mezzanine, a timber ceiling and living walls.
