Project brief

The Valley Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton is a five-story, 129-room boutique hotel in downtown Homewood, Alabama, a few minutes south of Birmingham. The building covers about 109,678 square feet. Valor Hospitality Partners developed it with Capstone Real Estate Investments, and Valor also operates it. Bounds & Gillespie Architects designed the building, and Looney & Associates handled the interiors.

The rooms include nine suites. Their palette draws on Homewood's natural setting and nearby Red Mountain, with wood and linen accents, original work by local photographers, and wood-paneled headboards with built-in nightstands. The main level holds the lobby and lounge, a café, a boardroom, a fitness center and Ironwood, a street-level restaurant and bar with outdoor dining. A second floor of flexible meeting and event space includes the Red Mountain Ballroom. The hotel sits in a district that has grown from a bedroom community into a center for shops, restaurants, galleries and bars. It opened in February 2021.

In 2019, before the hotel opened, BOGZA produced interior renderings for Looney & Associates. The images show the restaurant with its open bar and wine rack, a lounge bar under a coffered ceiling, and the lobby, where a fireplace column stands among bookshelves.
